What Is Pilates+?

What Exactly Is The Difference Between Your Regular Pilates Class & The Pilates Plus Programme?

I often found, and when speaking to others they also felt that most pilates programmes lacked something.

People want the strengthening, the core work, the focused time on you… but feel like there should be something more from it?...

You understand the power of energy, of thought and how it can affect your health and body. So why isn’t it talked about more in your classes?

Or perhaps you want to do pilates, have tried it even, but just not really resonated with it yet.

When it comes to pilates, I always felt the connection between the mind, the body, and you was missing.

And it turns out, but you already likely guessed this, that when you bring the elements of the mind and body together, the results are way better.

Both in terms of strength and also benefits that filter out into the rest of your life.

I’m guessing you're not the type of person that just wants any old pilates class, you want something more.

Yes you want the….

  • Increased strength

  • Better posture

  • Reduced risk of injury

  • Reduced back pain

  • Increased flexibility

  • Stress release and relaxation

But you want something more...

If you’re looking for a programme that incorporates pilates, but also a whole lot more to ensure the best connection with your body then let me introduce you to my programme, Pilates+.

Why Do People Start Pilates+?

Reduce Pain & Recover From Injury

TW-Testimonials-Caroline.png

So many people start pilates when they have got an injury they are recovering from, or an ache and pain that just won’t go away.

Often a physiotherapist, or chiropractor, osteopath, GP or a consultant have said… to support your journey back to full health I recommend pilates.

That might even be the same for you! It was for Caroline.

“I was in and out of physio for a few years with various injuries and Pilates was recommended to help strengthen my body and help with the healing process.
Now I'm not in pain anymore with my back, it's amazing as it used to hurt all the time!

My body moves better now, feels longer and stretched out.

Also it’s had a really positive effect on my stress levels and mental health, overall I feel really balanced. My mind feels focused and my body feels strong and energised after each session.”

Reduce Risk Of Injury

Others take up pilates to help them reduce their risk of injury, or getting pain in the first place so they can continue playing their favourite sports.

Just like Jeremy said...

“I initially started Pilates in order to improve my overall flexibility and to help keep me surfing and snowboarding for as long as possible.

I had also developed some lower back issues and wanted help to improve my overall strength.

I love the feeling of being stronger and more flexible at the end of a session.

I like the way Tom imparts his knowledge of anatomy while keeping us exercising, really helps you understand why you are doing a particular movement.

I can now clip into my snowboard without having to sit down (I’m 52!)

Definitely go for it, improving your core strength and flexibility will give you a lifetime of benefit.”

Improve Core Strength

TW-Testimonials-Clare.png

Or perhaps like Clare it’s a combination of reducing injury, getting injured and wanting to improve core strength and stability….

“I started Pilates as instructed by my physio to help with injury recovery and generally improve core strength and stability - with the aim of reducing further injury in future. I enjoy the improved flexibility that comes from doing pilates, and feeling relaxed after each session.”

Clare

Improve Flexibility

Or perhaps you’re like Christina who was already a gym goer, but wanted to support her training and improve her flexibility...
“I was already using a local gym regularly, but wanted to increase my flexibility and range of motion.

I enjoyed doing the pilates classes right from the start, but have grown to really love them and look forward to them. It’s truly movement which brings greater fitness, flexibility and energy.

Tom’s teaching is outstanding. He communicates so well with his students and I love that he is able to help me see, feel, listen to and understand my body and the exercises I am doing. He uses a multisensory approach which is so helpful. He combines his professional knowledge and understanding (which is fascinating) with a gentle, confident and encouraging style of teaching.

Pilates classes have helped make me physically stronger and bodily confident and unexpectedly, stronger emotionally.

 Tried once, hooked forever.”

Me Time

Lots of people start the programme because they want to get a bit of “Me TIme” back into their daily or weekly routines.

This time is so important, and for those that spend a lot of time focusing on others… family, friends, neighbours who need help etc, you’ve probably heard the phrases like...

“You can’t pour from an empty glass”

And it’s so true, we spend so much time focusing on others, but unless we are in a good place we can’t truly help them to the best of our ability.

What’s In The Programme?

Pilates+ is made up of a few core concepts and training styles that come into this programme and let introduce them to you now…

Pilates

This is the core aspect of the programme, and what the fundamentals are built on. Pilates is precise movements used to develop uniform muscle tone and alignment throughout the body, thus allowing your body to move more freely and perform efficiently.

Franklin Method

What Franklin Method does is it shows you how to use your brain to improve your body's function. It shows you how to use the transforming power of the mind!

The sciency term is “neuro-plasticity” and what this means is the ability of the neural networks in the brain to change through growth and re-organisation.

Think about the moment when…

You’re practising a skill like learning a language. You keep making mistake after mistake... Then one day, almost out of nowhere, you nail it!

You remember the words, you can speak the language effortlessly - that’s neuroplasticity!

That’s creating long term neurophysioligcal change in your body, mind and in your life.

This was the first missing key I found and this tied with pilates truly takes your training to the next level.

Biomechanics Coaching

In order to get great results we have to understand how and why the body is moving in the way it does. And spoiler alert we are all different!

There is no one size fits all approach I’m afraid. Biomechanics Coaching gives us the tools to see what areas of our body are working beautifully, and the areas that are not.

Think about this for a second… if you have a hip that isn’t working properly… the muscles, joints and nerves just don’t work together well, then strengthening it would only increase the problem.

This is why simply strengthening something isn’t the only solution.

Who Is Tom Waldron?

Lots of people join this programme after being in my world or seeing me one of the social platforms. But just in case this is your first time here, let me introduce myself…

I’m from an old naval town in the South of England. I love getting in the sea (when it’s a reasonable temperature!), making time for my little nieces and nephew (in other words, getting beaten by them) and having a few pale ales in my local. If I’m not trying to convince my mates over a beer to take some time off so we can go camping near the beautiful beaches of North Devon, I’m trying to get them on the next snowboarding trip.

I’ve been fortunate enough to fix many of my physical issues that had plagued me for years such as low back, knee and shoulder pain through movement. For me and for thousands of others who I've worked with, movement is medicine and just like all medicine, it’s about getting the dosage right for the individual.

As an international educator and guest university lecturer in the fields of movement, anatomy and health. I’ve been lucky enough to work with a very diverse range of people, understanding what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to thriving physically and mentally.

The highest quality pilates and movement sessions should be available to you at times that are convenient for your busy life. Expert guidance and support shouldn’t be hard to find and through the Pilates Plus membership, you will have this at your finger tips when ever you want!

Don’t Just Take My Word For It

This is my program, I’m obviously going to say it’s great and that you should give it a go. So that’s why I like having some of our community share their thoughts. Here is what they had to say…

I’m certain that the reason I’ve had very few back problems over the last few years is down to Pilates!

“I started doing Pilates after I’d ‘slipped’ 2 discs (MRI scan revealed this) in my lower back. The pain after that continued in varying degrees of discomfort. The scan also revealed a degenerative spine, quite common as we get older.
I decided after some research & gentle persuasion from my better half that Pilates was the way forward to help my back problems & also to keep me more supple.

I had only ever participated in football, squash, windsurfing & gym work, so this was something very different!

I’m certain that the reason I’ve had very few back problems over the last few years is down to Pilates. Being able to do something that is not too time consuming that you know is helping to keep your body in good shape & certainly more flexible than it otherwise would’ve been.

My favourite part of how Tom teaches is that his passion & commitment shines through but is linked to a very gentle, almost laid back approach.

For anyone on the fence, I would say try it, give it ago. It takes very little time out of your day (1 hour session) & the benefits are numerous for all sorts of ‘issues’ & will help your overall flexibility going forward.”

— Barry

Having not been a ‘class’ person before I am a convert…

“I was Introduced to Tom’s Pilates by a friend who is also a client and loved it.

I spent decades running and was looking for something to help with my flexibility and to improve my back issues, but overall I was feeling movement was harder for me and I needed to improve it and my overall strength.
They’re fun. I love your teaching style; it’s motivating and clear, with individual instruction where necessary.

The classes are different every time and this helps to keep us motivated.

I’m definitely feeling more flexible and my lower back issue has improved.

If you’re thinking about giving this a go… Just Try it! I was very impressed from my first lesson, having not been a ‘class’ person before I am a convert…"

— Jules

I always feel more supple and my posture definitely is improved

“I started Pilates as I suffer with a sore back and neck and this really helps to keep it under control.

I always come away with a feeling more in touch with my body. I love the way we always do something different and the knowledge that Tom shares about why we are doing a certain exercise and the benefit it has for our bodies.

After a class I always feel more supple and my posture definitely is improved.
Absolutely give it a go, it is one of the best things I have done for my personal wellbeing, health and fitness.”

— Tracy

I wish I had started earlier!

“The realisation how amazing our bodies are!

I now have a positive attitude towards exercise - it’s no longer something I feel I should do, but that I want to do. I wish I had started earlier!”

— Anthea

A perfect time to wind down after a day at work and touch base with your mental health

“I started Pilates because lots of my friends were raving about it and so I decided to give it a go. It has really helped strengthen my lower back and relieved pressure on my sciatic nerve.

I have turned the loft into a pilates studio now my girls have left home and I have a special lead that plays the class through the TV so I get Tom on the tele😂

It is such a relaxing end to the day and 5.15 is a perfect time to wind down after a day at work and touch base with your mental health. I definitely feel I have a stronger core and improved posture and try to do at least 2 classes a week.

I’ve given up my gym membership as I feel Pilates and running are a perfect combination with cardio and stamina from running and strength, stretching and suppleness from Pilates.

I’d definitely recommend It😁”

— Ali

Frequently Asked Questions

There are often questions that people like to ask before joining the programme so I thought I would put some of them here…

Will I need any equipment?

No equipment is necessary, I would probably get a mat, but that’s it. There may be a few things that would help your practice and I’ll send you some info once you start your trial.

How long do I sign up for?

There is no length of contract or anything like that, you can cancel your account whenever you want. Obviously… like with all types of exercise, this is a practice and best results will come from doing it over a longer period of time.

If I have questions is there someone I can talk to?

Of course! You can talk to me! Once in the community I will be there to help and guide.
